Lists

My husband is all about lists. Top 10 lists. Top five lists. Greatest of all time lists. Give him a list -- he'll fill it out. And then he'll ask you to fill it out.

Every time.

I am not so much about lists. It's not that I hate them or anything. It's just hard for me to narrow things down to the absolute number one best movie or song or experience of ALL TIME.

But.

Let's try out some lists here every now and then.

Want to?

Here's my list for today, timely thanks to a World-Herald feature of late. They are calling it Music to My Ears. I am going to call it Best Music List Ever.

Favorite song
1. "Mr. Jones" - Counting Crows
2. "Unchained Melody" -- Righteous Brothers
3. Current because it's just too stressful to narrow the rest down: "New Slang" by The Shins

Favorite album
1. "August and Everything After" -- Counting Crows
2. "MTV Unplugged" -- Alanis Morrisette
3. "White Ladder" -- David Gray

Favorite artist, group, band
1. Clay Aiken
2. Counting Crows
3. Maybe Jack Johnson?

Top three concerts
1. Tie: Clay in Appleton, Wisc., summer of 2004, and Clay in Denver, also summer of 2004.
2. Radiohead at Red Rocks, Colo., summer of 2003.
3. I can't pick (see, I'm not very good at lists): James Taylor, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi. They were all good.

Guilty pleasure
1. Well, Clay.
2. New Kids on the Block
3. Pink

OK, obviously rounding out the lists with the third choice stresses me out! Your turn.

Go.

The Counting Crows would make it into my top three bands for sure. My favorite song of theirs right now is Mrs. Potter's Lullaby, but I'm also kind of obsessed at the moment with You Can't Count on Me.

My guilty pleasure is showtunes. I'm a broadway nut. Figure that out.

These kinds of lists are too hard for me. I like to make grocery lists and lists of things I need to get done or things I'd like to receive for presents. =)

P.S. - Have you heard about Princess Chunk?http://www.nypost.com/photos/galleries/news/regionalnews/pp_20080730_fat_cat/photo01.htm

The complete link didn't show up. Here's a different, shorter one: www.zimbio.com/Princess+Chunk

Sara:

I totally thought your link would be to a band named Princess Chunk. Not a cat. A fat cat at that.

Dane - Haha. Yeah, it was a bit random.

Jessica, I don't think I know "You Can't Count on Me." Is it on their new album? I haven't given that much of a chance yet.

Ashley, I love that you did a fave things of all time list. And yes, of course, I remember Cheetah Girls and our GREAT seats. :) American Idol was way fun.

Katie, love that you commented. Also love that you added a party songs category. And I'm totally going to check out some of those songs that I've never heard of. I do like that Lucinda Williams song from your wedding CD.

Dane, of course your choices are way cooler than mine. And I almost added The Wiggles to my guilty pleasures list, too. :)

Sara, it must be genetic! Making lists like this is hard for me, too. I have heard about Princess Chunk. Unbelievable. 24 pounds, right?

Thanks for playing along, everyone.

P. Chunk is 44 pounds...probably close to what Rye weighs?? That cat rocks.

Veronica said...

Oh, I was only 20 pounds off, huh?! Geez. Rye actually only weighs about 30 pounds! So that is one BIG cat.

1. Nevermind, Nirvana

Top three concerts
1. Stone Temple Pilots, three times for free: The Ranch Bowl, Ak-Sar-Ben and the Civic.

3. Alice in Chains with Lane Staley at Peony Park.

Guilty pleasure
1. Star Wars soundtracks
2. Dan Zanes

Jeff, hooray for your list! I'm glad the site is working for you once again.

I wonder how many others out there would list Alice in Chains and Jack Johnson among their top favorites in music.
